Beautiful writing, Mark. I’m a writer and you crushed this, far above my poor ability to add or subtract, as Lincoln once said. On point. So sad and remarkable that America has devolved into the opposite of the ideals this man once championed.

Interesting and well written article. I was born in ‘79 so I never experienced that era, but I learned a few things here and have even more respect for Mr. Carter now.

Well done on the particulars of his successes. Many just skim over them to get to a "Rabbit" story.

Nice to remember when grit, decency and integrity mattered in this country. Carter never quit trying to change us for the better. The contrast with our president-elect is soul-wrenching. Superb column.

This piece is just fabulous. So insightful. So sensitive and pure. Great writing and great commentary. Who knew a sports writer could do this? :) (Well, some could probably!) Thank you for this and Happy New Year.
