Bob was one of the very best sports editors I had and also showed me a lot about boxing and boxing coverage. A no-BS guy if there ever was one, and a leader.
Whitey was a character. I hated those small-ball Cardinals team, but they were always good.

Not really. He made his own hitting charts and did look at hitter vs. pitcher matchups, so I don't think he would have rejected everything.
